广东外语外贸大学粤商研究中心是全国唯一的专门研究粤商的省级重点研究基地，是广东省粤商研究会（省一级学会）的发起单位和常设办事机构，是广东国际战略研究院（广东省最高等级智库）的重要支持单位。中心下设“中国商业史研究所”，“企业国际化与国际商务研究所”、“家族企业与企业家研究所”、“大珠三角区域发展战略研究所”（与广州南沙开发区合办）、“企业制度与公司治理研究所”、“产业组织与企业理论研究所”，在不断探索和成果累计过程中，逐渐形成“以文化为背景，从管理学角度切入，融合多学科视角，在国家现代化进程中发掘粤商兴衰演进规律”的研究特色，尝试构建开放兼容的岭南文化影响下的本土管理理论体系；聚焦公司控制与风险管理，探寻企业永续经营之道；融合经济管理思想史，揭示粤商传承的传统性与现代性真谛。
近3年来，中心先后在《经济研究》、《管理世界》、《经济学（季刊）》、《中国工业经济》等权威刊物上发表有影响力的论文50余篇，承担了国家社会科学基金、国家自然科学基金、教育部人文社科基金等基金项目20余项，年均承担横向课题经费100余万。出版了“粤商研究系列”、“企业发展研究系列”、“产业金融论丛”等专著。
the only Provincial Key Research Base on Cantonese Merchants studying in China, is the promoter and the permanent office of Institute for Guangdong Cantonese Merchants Research (Provincial Association) as well as an important support unit to the Guangdong International Strategic Studies (the highest Provincial Level Think Tank).
Under the guidance of the Center, there are "Chinese Business History Research", "Enterprise Internationalization and International Business Research", "Family Business and Entrepreneurship Research", "Great Pearl River Delta Regional Development Institute of Strategic Research" (jointly managed by the Center and the Guangzhou Nansha Development Zone), "Enterprise System and Corporate Governance Research", "Industrial Organization and Firm Theories Research".
By continuously exploration and accumulation, the Center gradually formed the researching characteristics of “finding the evolution law of Cantonese Merchants in modernization process, on the cultural background and management perspective”, and attempted construct native management theory system under the influence of compatible Ling-nan culture; it studied sustainable way to proper management by focusing on corporate control and risk management; and revealed the inheritance of Cantonese Merchants’ tradition and modernity by integrating economics and management thought history.
In the past three years, the center not only has published more than 50 influential papers in “Economic Research", "Management World", "Economics (Quarterly)", "China Industrial Economy" and other authoritative publications, but has undertaken more than 20 fund projects, such as the National Social Science Fund , the National Natural Science Fund, Humanities and Social Sciences Fund（Ministry of Education）,which means more than one million crosswise project funds annually. Moreover, it also published lots of monographs like "The Cantonese Merchants Research Series", "Enterprise Development Research Series", “Industrial Finance Essays”, etc.
